Add headers, footers, logos, page numbers, and margins with a Word Page Layout

Attach a Word Page Layout to a custom template for branded Word and PDF exports.

Written by Max Sherman

A Word Page Layout is an optional .docx file attached to a custom template. It controls export-only page features while the custom template controls the structure and writing style of the minutes.

Add a Word Page Layout

1. Open Templates in MinutesGenerator.

2. Select the custom template you want to use.

3. Under Export page layout, choose Add Word layout.

4. Select a .docx file prepared in Microsoft Word.

5. Generate or open minutes that use that template, then export the minutes as Word or PDF to verify the result.

What the layout can preserve

• Default, first-page, and even-page headers and footers

• Letterhead, logos, seals, and positioned artwork

• PAGE and NUMPAGES fields

• Paper size, orientation, margins, header distance, and footer distance

• Page borders and mirrored margins

• Continuous line numbering or numbering that restarts by page or section

What appears in the editor

The Page Layout is applied at export time. Headers, footers, page numbers, logos, borders, and gutter line numbers are not displayed or editable in the minutes editor. The editor continues to control the document body.

How changes affect meetings

A meeting keeps the template and Page Layout revision assigned when its minutes are generated. Replacing the Word layout or changing your default template affects future minutes; it does not silently restyle historical minutes.

Build a reliable Word layout

• Use Word's real Header, Footer, Page Number, and Line Numbers features.

• Use PAGE and NUMPAGES fields instead of typing a fixed page number.

• Use tab stops or a table to align footer items. Repeated spaces are unreliable.

• Set the page margins and header or footer distance so artwork does not consume the body area.

• Check first-page and later-page behavior.

• Remember that literal text stays literal. For example, a typed meeting date does not automatically change.

• Export and inspect both Word and PDF before adopting the layout for future meetings.

To replace or remove a layout, return to the custom template and use Replace Word layout or Remove Word layout.
